Proposal Request for Funding

Support for quality education, with an emphasis on math and science, is Harris Corporation's primary philanthropic platform. The majority of funding from the Foundation is provided to educational initiatives. In non-educational fields, the Foundation gives priority to requests from local community organizations that serve the health, welfare, civic and cultural needs of Harris employees and families.

To apply for funding, an organization whose purpose is consistent with the objectives of the Harris Foundation must submit the proposal below. Proposal submissions may be made between February 1 - 28 of each year for consideration of funding for the next fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Proposal Process Summary
Once you submit your proposal, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from the Harris Foundation. All proposals are then presented to the Board of Trustees for consideration. The Harris Foundation will send you a letter with the funding decision of the trustees no later than the July timeframe. Acknowledgement
Prior to completing your proposal, you must review the contribution restrictions and guidelines below. All proposals that conflict with these restrictions and guidelines will not be considered for funding.

Contribution Restrictions: Contributions are generally not made to the following:

  • Individuals. All requests must be for certified non-profit organizations.
  • Scholarships (other than the Harris National Merit Scholarship) or foundations that provide scholarships.
  • Organizations that discriminate illegally by race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability or national origin.
  • Organizations that do not have active, diverse boards, effective leadership, continuity and efficiency of administration.
  • Organizations that do not have board insurance.
  • Organizations that have been in existence for less than two years.
  • School sponsored events, school organizations, athletics, clubs, radio/TV stations, Boy & Girl Scouts Troops, etc.
  • Home-based child care/educational services.
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes. Organizations that are supported or operated by religious organizations may be considered if their services are offered to the general public.
  • Professional associations, labor organizations, fraternal organizations or social clubs.
  • Walk-a-thons, ride-a-thons, dance-a-thons, bowl-a-thons, etc.
Guidelines
  • Organizations and projects should be located in communities where Harris employees live and work.
  • Each organization is limited to one contribution per year, except in unusual circumstances.
  • New requests will be evaluated equally with previously funded organizations; previous contributions will not be construed as precedent for additional support.
  • Support for capital campaigns ("bricks and mortar") are given priority.
