The management of Harris always has believed that being engaged with the communities where we have facilities and with the world at large is key to our overall business success. By promoting vibrant, caring, healthy communities, we create the best possible environment for future growth. During fiscal year 2010, Harris donated more than $4.3 million to initiatives and nonprofit organizations that strengthen our communities internationally, nationally, regionally and locally.

Harris employees are actively involved in a wide range of fundraising events, charity drives and other service initiatives that benefit communities around the world. During 2010, Harris employees donated more than 54,000 volunteer hours to help strengthen the quality of life in the countries and communities where we have operations. These hours represent approximately $1.1 million of volunteer labor in the world community.

Harris corporate responsibility programs are far-reaching, with a focus on support for quality education, particularly in the areas of math and science. Harris fosters the growth of technical educational initiatives through donations of cash and equipment, through the involvement of Harris employees in mentoring students and sponsorship of teacher enrichment initiatives. Over the past four fiscal years, the Harris Foundation has made contributions, grants and pledges to support higher education in science, math and engineering totaling more than $9 million. The company also devotes significant funding to student organizations that promote academic and professional success among minority engineering students and to K-12 outreach programs at the local level, are the foundation of inspiring young people to pursue careers in math and science.

Harris Corporation has only one annual solicitation for funds to our employees and that is for the United Way. We focus our attention on this organization because it supports many agencies that provide a wide distribution of services. The United Way has been very successful in meeting the pressing needs of thousands of individuals and families in our community. The 2010 Harris United Way campaign raised more than $1.3 million for the Brevard County, Florida, community, where the company is headquartered, and more than $485,000 for other communities across the U.S. where the company has operations.
